The work in this exhibit is inspired by the artist's life on the water. The mixed media works are made using salvaged materials connected primarily to North Carolinians and their relationship to the land and waterways. Some objects are found and collected from regional farms, coast lands, junk yards and roadside shops down east.
Much of Jim’s ‘inventory’ is provided by the coastal cleanup efforts of his partner as they explore the estuaries, marshes, swamps and coast of eastern North Carolina.
The artist attempts to give a nod toward those who work with our natural resources while simultaneously addressing the failure of many who, either by intention or neglect, do harm. The purpose of these installations is to create something beautiful and provocative from castaway things.
