An Invitation to Breathe….
Dale Edwards has been painting with oils for the last 10 years. Many of his paintings are of often-overlooked structures, like grain elevators, barns and mills, free of clutter and detail. His compositions are straight and full of breathing room. Although the structures can appear isolated and lonely, they’re always in the fine company of wide-open, dominating skies and endless fields. His paintings are purposefully simplistic, encouraging the observer to be quiet, listen to your own breathing, hear the wind on the prairie in the painting.
The name of the exhibition is Wide Open, and it should be obvious as to why it has that name. The minimal, wide-open landscapes are like a deep inhale and a surrendering, blood-pressure-reducing exhale.
Dale’s style is greatly influenced by Charles Sheeler, Ralston Crawford, and Edward Hopper. He paints as often as he can, but not nearly enough. This is his first show in three years. Dale is the Managing Editor for the News of Orange County, and the Editor of the Mebane Enterprise, where he has the privilege of writing about always-surprising and special communities.
